Should I major in russian, criminal justice, or hotel management?

russian to become a translator, linguist or investigator.......

is a hotel management degree really necessary?Should I major in russian, criminal justice, or hotel management?
You should choose what you would love to do as a career. But since you posted your question here, here is my opinion:

Russian Translator:

Your ability is only limited to translating Russian so you don't have much job choice. I wouldn't suggest that major for you. You should choose a major that keeps your options open.

Criminal Justice:

This one gives a wider range of career options. You can choose to become a police officer, or, continue to further your education to become a judge after that, or you work for private companies in the legal department, etc. Basically, you will have a lot of options to get to from this major.

Hotel Management:

You don't really need a Hotel Management degree to work at a Hotel. Unless you are very ambitious and you can find a job at a Corporate office. Most people who work at a Hotel don't have a degree in the Hotel Management. I think Hotel Management is the most wasteful degree. If you think that working at a Hotel is glamorous then you are wrong. Plus, they don't pay much. Of course it depends on your job title, the size of the Hotel, the brand name of the Hotel, and the location of the Hotel. You will get a lot of pay if you can work your way into one of those big corporates that manage Hotels around the world. But remember, Hotel opens 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. That's what your work will be like if you work at the corporate office.

Most of all, choose what you think you would love to do as a career. But, remember that this is for the rest of your life. It sounds kind of depressing that you have to choose a major that define you for the rest of your life. But don't worry too much about it. Plenty of us get a major in one thing and work in a totally different industries. Why don't you postpone picking a major? In the mean time, get a few internship or try to work at some fields that you are interested in. That way you will get the first hand experience and then you can decide which major you will choose. Don't take too long to do that though. Take about a year or two but no more than that. In the mean time, keep going to school if not full time then part time. It is hard to go back to school once you quit. Trust me. Good luck!Should I major in russian, criminal justice, or hotel management?
Which are you most interested in? It is much better do do something you enjoy as opposed to just anything.Should I major in russian, criminal justice, or hotel management?
Which area do you feel most passionate about? Where would you like to live once you get your degree? Find out the requirements involved for all of these majors and pinpoint any potential obstacles. Contact people that are already in those fields to find out more about the fields. Do some soul-searching as to what draws you to each of these and list the pros and cons of each area. After you have done this, I would recommend talking to your school counselor. Good Luck!
