HOW DOES GOOGLE TRANSLATOR WORK?

I downloaded google translator and i am on a russian chat site but i dont know exactly what to do next.Do i have click on something or how do i make it work? I have selected the language box and the status bar icon is on.

Can u keep it simple please.
